Buck Woods 1
Buck Woods 1 submitted by Rich32 : Buck Wood 1 was one of 10 rocks found in the woods during surveys by the Friends of Buck Wood (FoBW). The stone sits just outside a prehistoric enclosure excavated in 2009. Referenced 10b in Keith Boughey's IAG archive this stone is the most extensively carved within the wood. Photogrammetric work I carried out for FOBW in 2009 seem to identify 9 cups, 2 with long grooves leading out, 2 cup... (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock Art in Yorkshire (West)

This cup marked stone is featured on The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) - see their page for Buck Woods Carving (01), Thackley, Bradford, West Yorkshire.

TNA describes how to reach this stone, provides photographs and gives a brief 'archaeology and history'. They tell us there are at least five cup-marked stones very close to each other in the woods here, and "this is the best of the bunch. Also found in conjunction with what seems to be an Iron Age walled enclosure 20 yards away, there are at least 8 cup-marks on top of this rock."

This panel matches the location and description of Dr Keith Boughey's Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding (Supplement, p30). The rock is described as being a medium to large striated gritstone rock with clear bedding planes, measuring 2m x 1.8m x 1.6m. It has 8, possibly 9, cups and a groove which runs away from one of the cups. All the cups are on the rounded triangular apex of the boulder.

Buck Woods 10
Buck Woods 10 submitted by Rich32 : Screenshot from the photogrammetric 3D model I created of Buck Wood 10 for the 'Friends of Buck Wood' in December 2009. It's difficult to pick out some of the features others have recorded for this stone. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Buck Woods 10
Buck Woods 10 submitted by Rich32 : Carving placed within prehistoric walling originally found by the 'Friends of Buck Wood' during their 2006-2009 surveys. The stone was added to Keith Boughey's 'Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding' archive in 2009. I've never been particularly convinced by the artificiality of the markings on this one, but greater authorities than I have concluded they are. Image captured 1... (Vote or comment on this photo)
