This cairn features in the Stone Rows of Butterdon Hill, Piles Hill & Glasscombe walk on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website, which describes "Three very large cairns known as the Three Barrows, one of which [this cairn], being about 50 yards in diameter, and 8 feet high, is reputed to be perhaps the largest on Dartmoor".
There is a specific entry on PDW for this cairn - see their page for Three Barrows Cairn.
The largest cairn is described on Pastscape Monument No. 441934 as "A very large cairn, 45.0m. north west-south east by 38.0m. south west-north east and 2.5m. high, in a prominent position at about 464m. above O.D. It has a slightly dished top, perhaps the result of small cairns and shelters being constructed around the summit. There are small overgrown quarry pits immediately west of the barrow."
The Heritage Gateway for Devon & Dartmoor HER has thee separate records for each of the three barrows, which they date to Early Neolithic to Late Bronze Age (4000BC to 701BC: the largest, the southernmost, and the northernmost.
The three cairns are also scheduled as Historic England List ID 1013029, List ID 1012773 and List ID 1012780.
