Trink Hill submitted by JimChampion : The triangulation pillar on Trink Hill, which stands on top of the remains of a tumulus. The hill in the middle distance, beyond the farm buildings, is Trencrom Hill - topped with the remains of an Iron Age hillfort/settlement. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Round barrow and natural rock feature in Cornwall

At the summit of Trink Hill is a round barrow, intruded upon by a drystone wall and Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar.

On the south-east slope is a prominent natural granite feature, the so-called Twelve O'Clock Rock, which, according to local folklore, had certain unusual powers. One story says that the stone, which can not be rocked like some local 'logan stones', would rock like a cradle at exactly midnight. Another version says that the stone will turn when it hears the cockcrow or church bells striking. Another tradition said that a child would be cured of rickets if it was placed upon the rock at midnight, provided that the child was not 'misbegotten'.

Access There is a car park at Giew Mine on the St Ives-Penzance road, but access to the hilltop and Twelve O'Clock rock is not easy from this side. A footpath heads east from the road near to the Engine Inn in Cripplesease. After a few hundred metres the Twelve O'Clock Rock is an obvious feature on the hillside to your left. A path heads up to the summit of the hill on the east side of a stone wall.

Such features are not rare in this part of Cornwall, although this one is "outstanding in its field" and has gathered a number of folklore tales during its residence here. Trink Hill
Trink Hill submitted by Bladup : Twelve O'Clock Rock is so called because it's said that the once nearby miners used to tell the time from it's shadow, In the book - Popular Romances of the West of England (1903) it says that numbers of people would formerly visit a remarkable Logan stone (The Twelve O'Clock Rock), near Nancledrea, which had been, by supernatural power, impressed with some peculiar sense at midnight. Although it ...
