A Chenes Maya city dating from the Mid Preclassic period (500 - 100 BCE), the small fraction of it you can see today is Late Classic (600 - 800 CE). Its name means "painted vault".

From the INAH website (in Spanish) :
- the site dates back to the Middle Preclassic, that is 500 to 50 BC.
- Structure A-I (the only one visible today) had 10 rooms on the lower floor plan alone. It was build in it's final form between 600 - 800 AD.

Some of the painted stucco work is in the Anthropology in Mexico City, some Stelae and painted stucco is in the Museo de la Arquitectura Maya in Campeche.

My picture set from 2004.
