Ancient Temple in Sri Lanka

The Gothapabbata temple is situated near the Walawe River and the seashore. It was built by King Gotabhaya of the Rohana kingdom in the 2nd century BCE. The Godapavata Harbour south of the dagoba was important harbour in ancient times, archaeologists discovered Roman and other foreign coins. The remains of the Godapavata monastery are pillars, some brick monuments. The Godavaya area has been inhabited since the neolithic. In 2008, a human skeleton dating back to 3000-5000 BCE was discovered in an abandoned stone quarry at Godavaya.
