Perfectly preserved passage-grave with 4 chamber-capstones and one passage-capstone situated in moorland (Nesser Höpens Moor) west of the village Wittstedt.
Chamber size is appr. 6,5m x 2m. Clear size will probably be appr. 5m x 1,5m.

According to Sprockhoff (Sprockhoff et al., Atlas der Megalithgräber Deutschlands, Teil 3, p. 7) it was discovered comparativly late (around 1910). It was very overgrown by moorland then, so chamber type was hard to determine. Nevertheless Sprockhoff identified 4 stones as capstones during his examination in 1927. Nowadays the tops of nearly all uprights and many other construction details are visible, although the chamber is still rather deep in the moorland.

Access remarks: There is no path. Wellies were required during my visit in December 2007. Tomb itself is situated on a (wet) pasture, but to get there it is necessary to walk 400m through/along moorland (luckily frozen during my visit) and climb over some barbed wire.

Wittstedt Steingrab
Wittstedt Steingrab submitted by Martin_L : As Sprockhoff and Schwieger visited the tomb in 1927, when it was very overgrown (by moorland), their professional drawing does not show the present situation (Sprockhoff, Ernst (et al.) – Atlas der Megalithgräber Deutschlands – Teil 3 Niedersachsen - Westfalen, Habelt, Bonn, 1975, Atlasband p. 8) Therefore I decided to make a simple sketch (not exactly scaled) of the current state.
