On the market square in Lichtenvoorde stands a 20 tonne glacial erratic known as the Koningssteen (Kings Stone). It was found in the Vragenderveld which is about 4 kilometres away. In 1874 the stone was dragged by 99 shoemakers to its current location to serve as a pedestal for a lion statue commemorating the 25th year of reign of king Willem III. The lion has been replaced in 1897 and in 1966.
