In 2011, all the burial mounds and post holes here were reconstructed with posts in their original locations. The reconstruction shows the last use phase of the burial field. There is a watchtower where you can look out over the site and see the nearby Prince's Tomb of Oss, with information panels.
People were regularly buried in this burial ground known as both Paalgraven and Zevenbergen during the Bronze Age and early Iron Age. It lies a few hundred meters from the Prince's Tomb of Oss and was discovered in 2007. Under one of these seven mounds, archaeologists found an unusually rich princely tomb measuring nearly 40 meters for the second time in a short time.
Archaeological research
The royal tomb was not excavated on site, but was lifted in blocks and then examined in a laboratory. By means of X-ray examination search, the archaeologists found as many as 525 tiny bronze objects with which they were able to reconstruct the details of a prehistoric burial from the early Iron Age. A unique feat, because such a thing rarely succeeds!
Visit to the grave monument
The reconstruction shows the last use phase of the burial field. All the grave monuments are visible, only the post wreaths of the older mounds have disappeared. The moorland also contributes to the image as it must have looked 2,500 years ago.
From the watchtower you look out over the pile grave monument and see the nearby Prince's Tomb. A work of art in the form of a bridge connects the Paalgraven to the Forest Tomb of Oss. There are also information panels at the monument and on the walking route to it, well signed - from the Prince's Tomb.
