Comana Chryse
Comana Chryse submitted by davidmorgan : A building at Comana which I think is probably from the Roman or Byzantine era. I didn't do my research properly before visiting this site and failed to find the remains of the theatre and other structures here. (Vote or comment on this photo)

The day I visited this site was one of those days when everything went slightly wrong. I visited the Hittite relief at Gezbeli in the morning which I had tried to see a few years ago and again I was too late to get the slanting sunlight on the rock that would have enabled me to see it (spent about 10 minutes staring at the rock face trying to make it out but couldn't see anything!). Then I took the wrong road out of Tufanbeyli in search of Comana and, after asking for directions from a shepherd, found myself on a dirt track through the hills and at one point reversed my rental car into a stone water trough. And then later in the day had a large piece of gravel thrown up by a passing vehicle crack my windscreen.
Fortunately most sightseeing attempts are not usually like this - a very rare occurrence for me.

But its days like this which often turn out to be the most memorable ! I still have nightmares about getting my campervan stuck on a small bridge, or driving over a mountain footpath ! Not to mention scraping the Mercedes....

Memorable? Not really, Martyn. I'd like to forget it - it cost me the deposit on the car. It's only the second time that I've actually damaged a vehicle while sightseeing. I've still got a dent in my motorbike's tank from Aslantaş in '93.
