Ancient Village or Settlement in Crete

The site was an early Minoan settlement between 2500-2000 BCE which was destroyed by fire, but then rebuilt in the Middle Minoan and Late Minoan I periods around 1900 to 1600 BCE. It consisted of an elegant house with two or possibly three floor, of which only the remains of the lower level is visible today. The layout included a paved courtyard, a raised walk, a veranda, various rooms and an altar. Amongst the artifact from this site were clay seals and various offerings. The site is signposted off the main road, and there is a lay-by for parking. Whitewashed stones mark a path that lead up the steep hillside.
