Ancient Greek Settlement in Calabria
Lokroi Epizephyroi was a Greek colony founded in 680 BCE. The foundations of an ancient Ionic Greek temple measuring 46m by 20m with 6 by 17 Ionic columns and a theatre are visible.
The deity to which the temple was dedicated is not known. It was started around 470 BCE and replaced an earlier wood and mudbrick temple. It was finally completely destroyed around the 11th Century. Marble statues were found here and taken to the Reggio di Calabria Museum.
