This site is one of the most well-known and best preserved ancient settlements from the Iron age in Norway. It is unique because it has been so well-preserved, without any human interference since the Iron age. Parts of it has been excavated, and it can be hard to see the house structures.
It consists of two farms, one with six traces of building structures, two of them large and the rest small to medium sized, and an uncertain number of burial mounds, at least over 20 in all. They are varying in size from 15 metres across and down to 3 metres. Most of them are plundered, but 2 of them seem untouched.
The other one is consisting of 4 house structures, and numberous burials, both cairns and barrows. It is hard to know exact how many there are here, because parts of the sites is in a very thick forest. But most of the structures and barrows are in the open and very easy to see.
There is also an ancient stone fence separating the two farms from the area around. It has also a stone fence that is going straight through the "village" and separating them. All the barrows and building structures are inside the stone fences.
A separate barrow cemetary is sited on top of a ridge nearby, it is probably connected to the farms, but it is outside the stone fence. Maybe a burial field used by both farms? it contains 6 barrows, and these ones are slightly larger than the ones inside the farm`s stone fences.
The site lies in a beautiful pine and leaf tree forest, most of which has been removed to show the site better. Signs have been set up to explain every individual site, and it very easy to follow.
