Ryukakuji Kofungun submitted by Aska : Site in Honshu Japan Tumulus no.101 of Ryūkakuji Kofungun (Vote or comment on this photo)
Barrow Cemetery in Honshū. In a historical park called Bōsō-no-Mura(房総のむら), more than 100 tumuli are preserved with a museum and reconstructed wooden houses of Samurai period. The tumulus no.101 in a round shape is reconstructed with tube, human and animal-shaped 'haniwa's.

A haniwa is a pottery model set in the ground at the site of a burial mound. These figures would have stood with others in a protective circle around the tomb-mound of a powerful ruler. Read more at the British Museum

Location: Just 10km from Narita International Airport. The timetable of the bus to the park is not so frequent but the 30min hike from Shimōsa Manzaki (下総松崎) station is agreeable.

房総のむら= Old village in Bōsō peninsula
