Barrow Cemetery in Nordland
The barrow cemetery is located on a flat grassy field overlooking the sea and the islands to the north. It is easily visible from the road and the area seems to be a natural flat sandbank now overgrown with grass. The barrow cemetery consisted of 8 round barrows and one long barrow. Sadly all of the barrows have been removed in later years except two beautiful round barrows.
The surviving barrows consists of two round barrows. The one to the south east is 12 metres in diameter and 2,5 metres in height. It only has a small tree and mostly grass on it and it is visible from a long distance in the flat field. The barrow to the north west is 13 metres in diameter and 2 metres in height and also easy to see.
Among the lost barrows it was a long barrow 14X2 metres in size and another round one around 12 metres in diameter but no trace of them is visible today.
The two surviving barrows doesnt seem to have any visible damage at all and both have a very pretty shape and profile. The barrows are visible from the well visited tourist road called the "Midnight sun road."
