Ancient Village or Settlement in Nordland
The Trolldalen site is a settlement from the age of migration (around 400-500AD). The site consists of three housing remains, 8 barrows and a ancient stone fence. The site is located in a small hill on a clearing with forest surrounding the mossy hill. Just close to the site is a camping spot and from here is a footpath leading to the site. The remains are on both sides of the footpath. The vegetation is mostly moss and small plants and some small birch trees spread around.
The largest housing site is located on the highest point on the small hill. It is easily visible as a elongated depression with two mounds running down each side. It is 18 metres in length and around 4 metres wide. It is just 1 metre away from the footpath.
The other housing remain is less visible, it is on the other side of the path. It is 11 metres in length and 3,5 metres wide. It is oriented parallel with the largest housing.
The third housing is small, it is just 6 metres long and 4 metres wide, it is located on the short edge of the longest housing.
The barrows are very difficult to see, they are small in size and is visible as some small hills around the housings. The only clearly visible barrow is a round barrow located on the south-west side of the clearing, just at the edge of the forest. It is around 12 metres in diameter and around 1,5 metres in height. The stone fence is also very difficult to see.
