Hillfort in Bohemia
The prehistoric hillfort Kotýz was situated on the western part of karst massif called Golden Horse, in the region of protected natural reserve Czech Karst (see the description of area in topic "Děravá Cave").
The hillfort was permanently occupied since the Bronze Age (ca 1000 BC) till the Early Middle Ages when it was abandoned sometimes before 1000 AD. No more then two lines of stone ramparts are hardly visible up to the present, but the ambience and the view is magnificent. It is said that the strange name Kotýz comes from the name of the Thracian goddess Kotys, whose cult was brought to this land together with the Celtic settlement.
