Ancient Village or Settlement in South Korea
A "paechong (=shell midden)" discovered in 1907, besides the shells, animal bones, stone, bone, clay&metal tools, carbonized rice grain and Chinese coins have been excavated.
The chronology of this site would be in a wide span and there are so many hypotheses. It is sure that before this site was used as a residential area, it would be a necropolis : 1 dolmen, 5 cists and 3 giant urn tomb have excavated. A small museum attached.
In 1992, another nearby ancient settlement "Bonghwandong yujeok (봉황동유적 鳳凰洞遺蹟)" was excavated and later developed into a historical park with reconstructed ancient houses, then "Hoehyeonni" seems to have been fallen into its supplemental site.
