Hillfort in Nord-Trøndelag
The Aurhammaren hillfort is located on a high rocky hill overlooking the sea to the west. The hill have very steep sides to the north, the west and south. The only accessible side is to the east where we can find the walls. The only defensive works is a single stone wall to the east.
The North east have a NW-SW oriented ravine where it is possible to get up to the fort. Along the ravines south east side is a wall consisting of large round boulders and stone blocks. It starts furthest to the south at the ridge and goes west in a length of 8 metres. Here the wall turns 90 degrees and crosses over the ravine where the hillforts entrance is still visible as a 2 metres wide opening. From the opening in the wall the wall continues north for 10 metres and turns then to the west in a length of 19 metres. The wall is clearly visible for 9 metres but the last part of the wall is collapsed and difficult to locate. The wall ends at a vertical drop down to the field below.
The south part of the wall have been cleared of moss in recent years but most of the wall is collapsed and overgrown and difficult to see. The top of the hill consists of a round shaped natural rocky plateau with fur trees and moss. There are two information posters, one by the local road to the north and one at the wall. Some wood stairs have been constructed for visitors at the start of the footpath.
