The nave of St Andrew’s Church is made of great logs split in half. They probably date back to very early Norman times, making St Andrew’s the oldest wooden church in the world. It is said that the body of St Edmund, martyred in AD 870 by the Danes, rested here in an earlier church on the journey to Bury St Edmunds in 1013.
