Ancient Village or Settlement in Mayes County, Oklahoma.
The detailed location of this burial site has not been made public since its discovery by a duck hunter. A law enforcement professional, he had originally feared that he had discovered a modern crime scene.
Oklahoma officials surveying the site, where both remains and artifacts are eroding out of the ground, estimate some of the finds to be in excess of 1000 years. The site is likely a settlement site and an associated burial ground.
Points of Contact for Indian tribal authorities have been contacted to secure the human remains. Artifacts found at the site include grinding tools for food preparation, animal bones, and stone tools.
Note: Note: See for comment for article describing the accidental finding of the site and some of the artifacts and remains.
