Aluta visited on 28th Jun 2015 - their rating: Cond: 5 Amb: 4 Access: 5 A fun place for US megalith fans. Built after a dream about megaliths, and it does have a dreaminess about it. It's up on the Kittatinny Ridge, surrounded by woodland and next to a religious retreat. There is a lovely chapel with a big stone in the centre, where you can sit and read or contemplate.

For a modern site, Columcille has a surprisingly lovely feel. It is open to people of all faiths and traditions, used by pagans, personal growth groups and shamanic practitioners, and adjacent to a Christian retreat and meditation center. The partially wooded property includes a small chapel, a stone circle, a large trilithon (called Thor's Gate), a number of trails and a meditation pond. It boasts over 80 standing stones.
Its position on the side of a wooded ridge, surrounded for the most part by natural forest contributes to its peaceful ambiance. Recommended for stateside megaraks--not the real thing, but clearly inspired by a true love of megalithic sites. (During her waning years, we took my mother, who delighted in all things connected with the British Isles, and she spent some lovely hours there.)
