Modern Dolmen in Central Portugal

Text provided by FilipeCsilva in 2011.
It is located on a roundabout just as one enters Caria village. By initial information I understood it had been relocated, due to a motorway being constructed on it's original site, but further investigation revealed it was a pseudo replica as "appropriate" stones were used to adorn the roundabout. I hesitated in submitting this site because, for all intents it is a replica (though quite a tastefull one) however as there are so many megaliths in central Portugal some sort of clarification would be due. I "baptized" it Anta da Rotunda de Caria for lack of any other name (Rotunda means - Roundabout in Portuguese).
Caria Village is close (5 miles) to Belmonte an absolutely fascinating town. It is the birthplace of Pedro Alvares Cabral (Discoverer of Brasil in 1500). The Eco Museum, The Olive Oil Museum, The Museum of Discoveries, The Church and the Jewish Museum are impressive by there quality, creativity and originality as they are presented to the visitor. High praise would be conferred if these museums were in a big city top marks to being in the middle of Portugal. Belmonte is 02:30 drive from Porto and a 03:15 from Lisbon. Without hesitation it is worth the drive and the visit.
