Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature in Peru
Located in the Amarakaeri Communal Preserve in southeast Peru is the "Harakbut Face," which resembles a gigantic man's face possibly chiseled into the local limestone. It is known by the local native Harakbut tribesmen as the "Rostro," which means "face" in their native language.[1] The Harakbut people see the formation as the face of a god. Living in the basins of the Colorado and Madre des Dios rivers for several thousand years, the Harakbut have a specific oral history of the Face, including myriad myths and legends that are still told to this day.[2]
