Ancient Trackway in Gwynedd

The bridge over the Afon Tai Hirion is known locally as the Roman Bridge. It has also been referred to as the Borrow's Bridge. It lies about 90m from the current road bridge and serves no current purpose but to allow sheep to ford the river. This bridge is thought to have been built during the Elizabethan period. However, the trackway that it conveyed across the river is thought to be much older.

This is a lovely looking bridge. Single arched spanning 5m and resting on vertical piers that are built of large boulders. It is 2.9m wide. The remnants of a stone lined causeway lead from the B4391 (Llan Ffestiniog to Bala) road.
