The cairn is on the summit of Moel Ymenyn at an altitude of 550m. The cairn is recorded as a Marker Cairn recorded by the OS in the 19th Century. Visibly it is a conical tower of stones 1.1m high with a diameter of 1.5m. However, on removing some of the heather and moss that surrounds the tower it is apparent that the cairn has a 5m diameter and is much bigger than accredited.
Moel Ymenyn is not an easy ascent. It has thigh high heather and chest high ferns that mask an uneven terrain. There is no discernable footpath. However, the view from the summit was worth the effort on the day.
