Cairn in Lancashire

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) features a page on this now destroyed tumulus - see their entry for Haulgh, Bolton, Lancashire. TNA describe this as 'a kerbed or revetted cairn, close to the very centre of modern-day Bolton' and quote from a number of references.

Pastscape Monument No. 44248 tells us this was: "a tumulus, about 30ft diameter and 4ft high, discovered in 1825. Excavation yielded an approximately central cist (4ft 6ins by 12 ins) containing a contracted burial, with an associated incense cup (4 1/2ins by 3ins)and a bronze knife/dagger (4 3/4ins by 1 3/8ins). Two other tumuli were found a few yards to the south. No remains, sites now covered by modern development. Finds transferred to Bolton Museum."
