juleslandau visited on 10th Jan 2024 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 5 Access: 4 Superb hillfort with commanding views in all directions, particularly the south towards Cranbourne Chase. The atmosphere is improved by the absence of any traffic noise or the sight of any settlement larger than a small village whichever way you look. On a cold winter’s day the wind moans as it blows up the steep escarpments to the south, kites and buzzards circle and crows fly in vain against the gusts. Magnificent and magical.

Current thinking suggests these "forts" were not built as defensive structures but were more in the nature of hilltop villages.
