Twiff13 visited on 9th Jul 2023 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 5 Bowl Barrow within the now boundary of the church, listed megalithic wall and sarcen stones. Met the chap who wrote the report from the last archaeological survey, found on the link below. Very interesting chat with him about the site. A large stone I found under the Yew tree adjacent to the Megalithic wall was one of the sarcens. Interesting site, shame the church was locked. Will revisit to look at the older stones within the church walls. http://www.osahg.org.uk/water-and-wells.html

A bowl barrow in a churchyard in Wiltshire with a later Saxon intrusion burial. There are also sarsen stones under the church and churchyard to see while you are there - pictured lower down our page.

Ogbourne St Andrew
Ogbourne St Andrew submitted by Thorgrim : Beneath dense foliage in the churchyard, there is a bowl barrow. Much later, it was dug into and a pagan Saxon was buried in it. Does the church therefore occupy the site of a former Pagan sacred place. (3 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Ogbourne St Andrew
Ogbourne St Andrew submitted by hamish : The Church is built on a raised platform, with the number of Sarsens used in the foundations and on the boundary, perhaps we have an old Stone Circle site. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Ogbourne St Andrew submitted by hamish : The stones on the boundary are not as big as the other one, it is reminicent of Churchhill village stones.
