Vord Hill North
Vord Hill North submitted by h_fenton : Photo hopefully showing multiple kerbs in the south west portion of the cairn. There is the outer kerb/edge then next to the red end of the scale is another kerb, at the white end of the scale is a space where the kerb should be smaller stones nearer the camera are on the right line, the lines of kerbs can be followed through the cairn material. 20 September 2015 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Chambered Cairn in Shetland

Vord Hill North heel shaped cairn. 12 x 17 metres, remains of facade on the south east side, no trace of a passage. Within the cairn material sit two large slabs lying perpendicular to each other suggesting the presence of a chamber.
In the south west portion of the cairn the outer kerb stone is visible along with a second and possibly third inner kerbs. Adjacent to the cairn to the west is a pile of stones possibly representing a structure built of stones removed from the cairn, there is also later disturbance on the north side of the cairn including the addition of a small enclosure.

On clear days there are fantastic views over the water to Yell (west) and Unst (north).

Vord Hill North submitted by h_fenton : Vord Hill North cairn s on right of photo with far reaching views to the north over Unst. The pile of stones to the left of the photo may be the remains of a later structure built using stones robbed from the cairn. 20 September 2015 (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)
