UNESCO world heritage site in south-western Finland. It is a set of ancient burial mounds made of local rocks.

This is a link to a site with a picture (site is in finnish). Sammallahdenmäki is a geographic name, "kirkonlaattia" (floor of a church) and "Huilun pitkä raunio" (long mound of Huilu) are names given by local people to the mounds (the names reveal that the people have lost the meaning of these mounds).

There are also other mounds and rock circles (for sitting) in the area. It is said someplaces (for example in the above website) that the mounds are burial sites but other sources say that no bones or such have not been found at least in some mounds. Therefore the reason, exact time, why the mounds have been built, and who built them is at least partly a mystery.

Re: Sammallahdenmäki by Anonymous on Wednesday, 01 April 2009
In Sammallahdenmäki excavated 8 cairns in 2002. From bones and coal with radiocarbon analysis we know at now, that the site has been in used as cemetery from ~1400 BC to +/-0 BC/AC. Oldest cairns are on highest cliff beside Kirkonlaattia (43 m above sea level) and yongest from preroman time near the lake Saarnijärvi (20 m above sea level).
They also find two prehistorical dwellingsites Sammallahdenmäki,
