Modern Stone Circle / Monolith in Cheshire

A large modern monolith with likely observable solsticial alignments framed via a road to the south.

Around eight feet tall, the monolith's broad sides face north-north-west / south-south-east suggesting some solsticial or near solsticial alignment. Referring to Solstice Streets (you need to take it to the Manchester page on the link, then scroll west for Warrington), the road of nearby Hardwick Grange happens to have a summer solstice sunset / winter solstice sunrise. Birchwood Boulevard has an angle very close to that, and the centre of the boulevard aligns directly with the monolith.

A path through a hengiform earthwork is in alignment with the boulevard, resembling a small type one henge in layout. If not an intentional solsticial alginment, it is a remarkable happenstance. Deciduous trees' leaf growth may obscure summer solstice sunset if viewed from south of the standing stone from Birchwood Boulevard.

Access is via a network of footpaths with either road crossings, subway or footbridges depending if coming in from a local estate, or driving in from the motorway and trunk routes. Best parking is nearby at Birchwood Shopping Centre to the south east and then about a ten minute walk. Heading towards Warrington, the stone is on the left just before the bridge over the M6 motorway. There is no stopping place on this dual carriageway - a 60 mile per hour stretch of road, parking must be found elsewhere. Adjacent the A574 on the south side of Birchwood Way between Birchwood and Warrington, the M6 motorway a stone's throw to the west, and the premises of Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group and Avios on the south side.

The only approach is on foot via a sloping path through the site's earthwork entrance. The sides of the mound are steep and very slippery, especially when wet. Even descending back to the surfaced path to the south, the grassy approach requires considered footing.

If visiting this stone, be sure to visit the Parkfields Park Stone Circle and its multiple modern recreations of a ritual landscape.

Warringtonis a big Masonic town ,the shopping centre is called ‘ the golden square ‘ the alignment of the megalith and Hardwick grange could well be deliberate . However from what I have found out Masonic celestial interests tend to be around the planet Venus

Can you explain why it’s called a ‘modern’ monolith please . I can’t find a glossary of terms that explains it on the net .
