Ancient Settlement and Heritage Park of the indigenous people of the Northern Plains, Saskatchewan, Canada. The archaeological sites found within the Wanuskewin Heritage Park include numerous habitation sites; four bison kills sites, a tipi ring site, and a boulder alignment. These sites show intensive occupation particularly of the Opimihaw Creek Valley over the past 6,000 years.
Evidence for even earlier occupation of the region is revealed by artifacts recovered from the uplands about two kilometers north of the park area. These materials suggest an occupation time depth of about 7,000 to 8,000 years in the general area.
From the Heritage Park web site: "Our award-winning architecturally-unique Visitor Centre is your gateway to the incredibly beautiful unspoiled natural prairie landscape with 360 acres of scenic trails, interpretive sites, archeological digs, fauna, flora and herbs.
Learn the stories and lifestyles of the Northern Plains Indians who have gathered at this one meeting place for over 6,000 years.
Experience Northern Plains culture through hands-on demonstrations, traditional cuisine, art galleries, indoor and outdoor activities and overnight Tipi wilderness camps."
