Museum in Saxony
The Archaeological Museum of Saxony is a modern, spacious and inclusive exhibition of Saxony's past. On 3 floors visitors are led through the comprehensive archaeological exhibition showcasing finds, models of all kinds and interactive displays. Starting from the earliest traceable habitation 300,000 years ago, spanning the ice ages and the following stone and metal ages, the last floor ends with the early industrial period in Saxony.
The 4th floor houses regular Special Exhibitions highlighting human endeavours in all areas of life. These exhibitions have a wider approach and connect the past with the present while also including perspectives from other regions and cultures in the world.
For those interested in the architecture and history of the former department store that now houses the museum, the Bay Exhibition is a recommendation. Designed by Erich Mendelsohn and built in the late 1920s, the building is part of the Jewish past of Saxony.
