So called Devil's stone of Vyšehrad is really quite mystery. At the first sight it can remind some kind of modern art, but the true is that this stone is very ancient.

According the famous legend from the year 1700, this stone was brought by the devil himself from the St. Peter of Rome, after he bet with the local priest. The Devil lost and so in rage he broke the column into three pieces. This event is also pictured inside the St. Peter and Paul Church at old fresco.

Another medieval source identifies the stone as a remains of broken pagan idol.
The oldest record about the stone is from the 1609. At that time the stone lay already in the local cemetery positively.

Pillars are made from granite that is not usual for this area. Also it slightly differs in length and diameter.

And there is a another mystery... An enigmatic engraved inscription in the middle stone. It is hardly readable, but it looks like letters S M M R I E M W. Inscription is most likely newer origin but its meaning cannot be explained reliably.
