Events This year’s Uplands Archaeology Forum will be held at Plas Tan y Bwlch, Maentwrog, in the Snowdonia National Park on Friday 10 May 2013. The Forum is a day-school entitled ‘Archaeology in the Uplands’ and is organised by the Royal Commission, Snowdonia National Park and Gwynedd Archaeological Trust.During the morning session fieldworkers will give presentations on this year’s work in the uplands archaeology project, while in the afternoon there will be a series of talks detailing the results of recent work carried out by a number of organisations in the national park.
The day after the Forum, Saturday 11 May, there will be a guided walk around a slate quarrying landscape in the Llyn Cwmysradllyn area. The route will take in the Gorseddau slate quarry, Treforys industrial settlement and Ysyspandy slate mill. The walk is about 3 ½ miles (6 km) along rough moorland tracks and is reasonably strenuous requiring stout footwear, outdoor clothing, a packed lunch and plenty of water. Further details of meeting arrangements and times will be circulated after booking has closed.
To register for either event please contact David Leighton on 01970-621204 or [email protected]. The cost of the Friday dayschool is £10, which includes sit-down lunch, refreshments and admission, payable in advance by credit card or cheque on registration. The Saturday field trip is free but places are limited.
