Artificial Mound in Great Lakes Midwest

Small island west of Washington Island, Lake Superior, named as "North Rock" on some maps, "Triangle Island" on others. There are several mounds and settlement remains, which have been excavated around 1900.

According to Google Earth, this Island is actually called 'North Rock' Island.

    Hi Druid, I've added this as an alternative name, but I've not yet been able to confirm this. Will try again over the weekend. I'm sure you're right, just me liking to double check. Thanks for the update.

      Curious - still not been able to confirm the alternative name of North Rock, so would be interested to see a screen shot or article confirming this name. General articles mention some 450 smaller islands around Isle Royale, so maybe North Rock is one of these? Of course, I may have missed something, so happy to be corrected.

      In my trawl through the internet found a couple of interesting articles about Isle Royale which may interest people:

      Historic Mining on Isle Royale, including a brief history of the Island.

      It looks like an absolutely wonderful place to visit.
