Ancient Temple in Piemonte

Described as an ancient place of worship, this megalithic terrace was built using dry stone walling.
The front wall, west facing, reaches 20 metres in length and is 6.3 metres high, it presents a doorway leading to a small chamber.
The side walls are built into the slope of the mountain and reach 13 metres in length.
At the crossing between the west facing and the south facing wall the top stone present a rectangular excavation.
Some of the individual lightly worked stone blocks reach 6 metres in length and can weigh up to 10 tonnes.
Past excavations have brought to light artefacts from the Iron Age and Roman Period, it is thought this was the base for more structures.
According to the legend instead, this was the pillar for a bridge the Devil wanted to build to cross the Antigorio Valley.
A suggestive site and yet not very famous, it can be easily reached: leave the car in Crego and continue on foot (uphill for about 30 minutes) following the signs for Arvenolo/Aleccio.
