The dolmen of Ayer present a small and single chamber, as it seems to be general in centrals Pyrénées. He was discovered with is tumulus intact, and was excavated by "l'abbé Cau-Durban" at the end of the XIXe century CE. Cau-Durban describe two floors of inhumation separate with a pavement of flag-stones. The upper contain bones of secondary inhumation (bronze ages); the lower a primary lateral inhumation with silex stones (neolitic). That mean that the dolmen was anthropized nearly since -3500 BCE (when megalitics burial arrived in Pyrénées) to -1200 BCE. Later, the proto-historics of Ayer employed incineration with circle of stones (allways without tumulus in the upper mountains) as we saw in the incineration necropole describe by Cau-Durban just near the dolmen (18 circles). The dolmen of Ayer is situated in the Riberot valley (see this site), and is a part of the paleo-village who contain : 4 dolmens, 1 (later) incineration necropole, a big stones enclosure (pastoralism), the village (fireplaces...) and the fields of agricultural where 12 axes (stone or bronze hoes) were found... All around - in the paleo-territory - many many engraving on dolmens and big stones, isolated discovery (stone-bronze-iron untill 2400m near the frontier) and a small burial cave (see this site). Generals details on www.aramond.com. by Ramon. Badly, the dolmen is not indicated and difficult to find. The best is to let the car near the bridge at the entrance of the valley and walk with a GPS.
