Ancient Temple in Tunisia
The ancient Punic city of carthage is spread out over a half dozen sites among luxury villas in a wealthy subburb of modern Tunis.
This area with he remains of temples to Baal Amon and Tanit as well as hundreds of children's graves and a cave is one of the most gruesome places in the world on account of strange atmosphere from the human sacrifices held here.
Tanit was more of a housewife/mother/moon goddes, while Baal Amon was a semitic sun god. A Moloch, or bronze bull shaped or headed statue was set up for him here, with a built in furnace where children, mosly first born, where sacrificed in times of trouble.
The Bardo Museum has a stelle showing a Punic priest carrying a baby to its doom.
Under Roman rule, Baal Amon and Tanit were rehabiliated or sanitized as Saturn and Juno Caelestis.
Qart Hadasht was the Punic name before the Romans latinized it.
