Ancient Temple in Ladakh

The choerten (stupas) at the Nyerma site are the oldest stupas in Ladakh/India. One of the Stupas can be visited. There are ruins of old adobe-built temples and libraries. On a top of the hill not far from the site, the old Thiksey monastery is located (the newer one lies around 5 km to the NW). The site lies on 3200 m of altitude. Today a nunnery occupies part of the ancient site.
