An ancient city in Iran is on the verge of submersion after officials started filling the Salman Farsi dam near the city of Jahrom in the southern province of Fars. The 2,200-year-old city has witnessed the post-Achaemenid to early Islamic eras and includes the remains of a Sassanid fire temple and a post-Achaemenid manorial house.
The site spans an area of 350 hectares and was first excavated by an archeological team directed by Hossein Jafari-Zand in 2007
Yasuj has had a long history, being occupied at least since the early Bronze Age. Of note are the Martyrs Hills (dating from third millinium B.C ), Khosravi Hill from the Achaemenian period, the ancient site of Gerd, the Pataveh bridge, and the Pay-e Chol cemetery. The Yasuj Museum which opened in 2002, displays coins, statues, pottery, and bronze vessels recovered from surrounding archaeological sites.
