]]>A rib bone in a town museum in Washington State carries the oldest known hunting weapon in the Americas, and for thirty years almost nobody believed it. In August 1977 Emanuel Manis was digging a pond on his farm outside Sequim when he turned up two mastodon tusks. Excavations recovered the animal from what was once a peat bog, and one of its ribs had an object embedded in it. The claim that this was a weapon, and that it predated the Clovis culture, sat unaccepted for a generation.

]]>The Skystone is an andesite glacial erratic boulder in Bonney Lake, Washington. It was deposited approximately 13,000 years ago. The stone's height and width are 4.5 by 12 feet (1.4 m × 3.7 m) and it has over 20 pits pounded into its surface, presumably by the Puyallup tribe. The holes seem to point towards both astronomical and geographic features.

Wedding Rock Petroglyph Site is located on Ozette Beach on the first rocky headland south of Cape Alava in Olympic National Park in the far northwestern corner of the State of Washington in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. The site is superb as is its striking setting on the coast. There are more than 40 petroglyphs to be found at Wedding Rock, although not all are easily located. Petroglyphs include faces and sea creatures. The most striking figures are of killer whales. The rocks lie along the coastal beach north of Sand Point.

Archaeological digs in two Washington national parks reveal artifacts that debunk the myth that indigenous people didn’t gather food and plants from the upper reaches of the Cascades. A dig near Cascade Pass in North Cascades National Park revealed evidence that humans used that area 9,600 years ago. At Mount Rainier National Park, a site produced artifacts dating back 7,600 years.

Ancient Village or Settlement in Washington.Ozette Village was one of several settlements of the Makah People. They occupied the extreme north west coastal area of what is now Washington State and the south west coast of British Columbia. The Makah (Qwi-dich-cha-at) made their livings from the resources of the sea and dense forest as much 3000 years ago and into the present. In the 1500's a section of hillside slid down and abruptly covered 5 timber long houses.
