]]>Propped stones are described by David Shepherd in 'The Old Stones' book and elsewhere - many have been recorded in Cornwall. Often these are found singly on or near the tops of Granite tors on Bodmin Moor and there are many examples here. They can be difficult to distinguish from naturally eroded features, although some can only be explained by human intervention as the orientation of the stones is clearly different from those beneath and they are propped in place by stones of a different type to the rest of the feature.

]]>SAD NEWS - it appears a major cliff collapse overnight 29 August 2026 at Holywell Bay beach has sealed off the beautiful holy well in the cave. . This must be the most unusual location for a holy well. The well is in the cave and only accessible at low tide. Water seeps from the multi-coloured rock and mothers formerly crossed the sands of Holywell Bay to immerse their ailing children in the healing water. Real pagan magic here with no obvious Christianisation.

]]>Artwork by Cazzyjane. A stone circle in Cornwall more properly known as Boscawen-Ûn. The focus of fascination with this evocative circle is the pillar located in the centre. Although it is a full 2.5m (8 feet) in length, it leans at such an angle that its tip is only 1.9m (6 feet 2 inches) above the ground. Excavation has revealed evidence that it was installed in the leaning position.

]]>The Louden 'tri-stone' - was this set up to reference Rough Tor in the background? Several other Bodmin circles within sight of Rough Tor have similar shaped stones. Not too much remains to be seen at first of this circle but at least 21 stones do remain, mostly flattened or stumps. On top of the ridge of Louden Hill at 935 feet altitude about a kilometre to the southwest of Stannon stone circle, northwest Bodmin Moor, in Cornwall.

Please see the comments section below for further information.. Described as "a probable Neolithic tin mine in Cornwall, one of the earliest known examples of tin extraction in Britain". An oak trunk recovered from the mine was radiocarbon dated to 4140 +/- 100 BP, placing the earliest phase of activity in the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age period, around 2200-2000 BCE.

]]>One of the smallest Penwith chambered tombs. Only 3 of the 4 support stones remain so the 2.9m square capstone has slipped and leans against the 3m x 1.7m x 1.7m high chamber. Similar to Chûn Quoit but sadly not as well preserved. The capstone has fallen and now leans on the two remaining uprights. There is a possible cup mark on the capstone.
