St Martha's on the Hill Earth Circles

Anyone for dancing at St Martha's Hill, Good Friday is the time.... A unique group of sites, spread within a few hundred metres of St Martha's on the Hill church, itself unusual and well worth a visit. The earth circles are enormous, but very shallow earthworks and difficult to see. This makes them virtually unknown to the many visitors to the hill. Eileen Grimshaw and myself are confident we have located them.

Flutters Hill Barrow

. A large mound of 37 x 30 m dimensions is located 80 m NW from Flutters Hill house, from the east it is cut by the road. According to information on Defra Magic Map this mound is a Bronze Age bowl barrow. However, report on Pastscape says it's a natural mound which could be confused with a barrow, while remains of the real barrow are located more to the south at SU 99186513 (nothing visible out there). The later report corrects it, re-interpreting a large mound as a barrow.
