Parknabinnia Capstone Factory

Parknabinnia Capstone Factory submitted by enkidu41 on 25th May 2004. R 259933 Close to Parknabinnia (1) wedge tomb are a number of remains (I found at least 5) which look like abandoned workings in which large rough slabs (which abound in the area) were turned into tomb capstones. In short, the area was a capstone factory. To enable them to be worked, the slabs are raised at one end on to a small boulder making them accessible all round. This is one such half finished capstone.

Parknabinnia 4 submitted by enkidu41 on 25th May 2004. R 259933 A wedge tomb which has partially collapsed. The stone in the foreground may have been the front of the chamber in which case the slipped capstone would originally have been considerably longer. Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology submitted by Blingo_von_Trumpenstein on 31st Jan 2011. Ashmolean Museums jadeite axes on display (9 displayed together on 3 shelves - photo taken with permission through the glass - very tricky). Jadeite - aaaaaaaah - lovely jadeite. These are the pinnacle of polishing of stone axes - they are insane. Just over 100 known in Britain (all from stone quarried from Monte Viso, Italian Alps - very hard to get to). Many more known from Italy and France. These are truly magical to hold. I have held several dozen of them and they make me tingle every ti...

Steinkiste Degernau

Steinkiste Degernau submitted by AlexHunger on 4th Sep 2005. The cap stone is about 2 Meters by 1.2 Meters and the front upright is about 1 Meter wide with a 40 Cm diameter Soulhole. There is an about 6 meter diameter tumulus around the Dolmen. The dolmen was heavily restored in the 1970's, but still has a really nice atmostphere. The "soul Hole" of the Toten Mann Dolmen looks straight at the Buehlhoetzle Menhir from 550 Meters away up a small hill.
