I went in search of the Birthplace of my Greatgrandfather, John Brown and found as well the birthplace of his Mother. My Great great grandfather was a Blacksmith, working in the Aulton Smithy .He married the Girl from the neighboring farm--Stonehead. Their Son, John was born at the Smithy about 1830. In 1853 he left for a chance at a better life in Canada. A lot of Scots did leave about then.He eventually homesteaded in Saskatchewan and his large farm is still in the family. Janice( Brown) Boyes
