Rock art in the Scottish Highlands
In Aberdeen's "Press & Journal" of 8th February 2013, is a report of the discovery, by Bob Gourlay and Douglas Scott, of 28 cup and ring marked rocks on Swordale Hill at Evanton, Easter Ross. Mr Scott says "... unknown to everyone, this hillside is actually one of the biggest collections of ancient art in the whole country."
RCAHMS list only 3 items of rock art at Swordale, all on the east side of Swordale Hill -
1. Canmore ID 12881 at NH 5764 6594, built into a wall
2. Canmore ID 12884 at NH 5747 6563, last seen "in a stackyard" in 1885, now lost
3. Canmore ID 12889 at NH 5786 6614, on a rock outcrop near Swordale Cairn (a chambered cairn on Druim More ridge, above Drumore Farm)
