]]>The remains of a broch, situated on a spit of land projecting into Loch Naver, having an outwork and a causeway on the landward side. The broch originally measured 52ft over a wall 12ft wide at the entrance on the SE. Walling is visible only for a short distance to the north of the entrance, but the stones appear to have been very large.

]]>This chambered cairn in Sutherland can be glimpsed from the roadside when approaching from the north on the A894. There is roadside parking on the verge and a newly well made wheelchair accessible path will get you close to the cairn. It stands on a rocky outcrop with impressive mountain views. Near the centre of the cairn the tops of four stones project above loose boulders and seem to outline the location of the chamber.

]]>ENorm writes: I have found fifteen Pictish Symbol Stones with linear Ogham inscriptions and one circular. I am keen to ascertain prospective dates for these Ogham additions to the Stones plus associated meaning, if any, between Ogham inscriptions and Stones. So far I have observations but no conclusions. Comments and ideas are very welcome. Class I Pictish Symbol Stone in Sutherland. The lower arm and shaft of the cross are not in a usual Class 2 style. The bird could be an eagle and the fish a salmon. Although recognised as a Pictish Symbol Stone this example lacks the usual geometric and other shapes (such as Pictish Beast) decoded in my material.
