It is a 100 foot diameter conical mound, 10 feet in height. The immediate area around the mound has been used as a cemetary in historic times; thus, the mound has not been excavated. The north end of the mound, perhaps an additional 15 to 20 feet of diameter, is missing.

It was once famously known as "Lost City" and was developed as a tourist site with a museum erected on a large platform mound. In the 1960s the venture failed and the museum was torn down.

A shell midden with evidence of settlement, including hearths, structure foundations, the introduction of ceramics, tool manufacture and food processing, but more notable as a cemetery site spanning hundreds of years. Indian Knoll was created over time by successive shellfish harvesting, and some settlement. But over many generations it became a successive burial site for peoples of Archaic cultures (3000–2000 B.C.), with very limited use into Woodland and Mississippian eras.

Small town paper decries big-city, smarty pants archaeologists for ignoring their ancient Og-ham/Libyan/Iberian-Punic petroglyphs.. Rock Art in Clay County, Kentucky.A series of markings, some vaguely alphabetic, some slightly pictorial, have been carved into sandstone. A modern hand has outlined some of the markings with white or light blue paint. The origin has been attributed (by whom is unsure) to up to eight ancient European and middle eastern alphabets, as well as (rather more obviously) Native Americans.
