TheCaptain visited on 11th Apr 2019 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 I am not really sure what to make of this, the remains of which are on sloping ground on the northeastern flank of Down Ridge above Hexworthy, just above the enclosed areas below. There is not a huge amount left, and much of that is at the uphill side, large slabs set on their long sides, several of which are adjacent to each other sort of making a solid wall. There are also a couple of standing stones forming part of the same arc, indicating a diameter of about 25 metres. On the lower side of the circle are several fallen slabs, which seem to have been moved about and not in their original positions. It's all a bit sad really, I would like to have seen this in better condition. The views over to the north and east over the river Dart are fabulous.

Down Ridge, or Hexworthy stone circle is on sloping ground on the northeastern flank of Down Ridge above Hexworthy, just above the enclosed areas below. There is not a huge amount left, and much of that is at the uphill side. It is 25m in diameter, 9 stones remain.

Must have been spectacular at one time with magnificent views to the northern horizon. The site is in poor condition with many stones lying around that may have been from the circle.

There is a single small standing stone on the hillside 100m SE from the circle. It is almost certainly prehistoric.

Update September 2019: This stone circle is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Down Ridge Stone Circle, which includes a photograph, a description and links to further information.

The circle is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 443043, which tells us there are "five upright granite slabs, with a further six lying where the fell. A separate stone is located 85m south east of the circle" at SX 65577 71994. The Devon and Dartmoor HER also includes an record for this site; see: MDV6400 (Down Ridge Stone Circle.

The monument is also scheduled as Historic England List ID 1019218 (Down Ridge stone circle and outlying standing stone 570m and 650m south of Forest Inn).
